Abstract

Wushu, a traditional Chinese martial art, has evolved from a combat discipline into a modern sport, increasingly influenced by contemporary marketing strategies. This study explores the impact of modern marketing on Wushu as part of sports education in universities across three major cities in China. Using a qualitative research approach, data was collected through semi-structured interviews with university students enrolled in sports education programs. The study examines how marketing techniques, including digital media, promotional campaigns, and branding strategies, influence student participation and satisfaction levels in Wushu programs. The findings reveal that modern marketing plays a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and appeal of Wushu, leading to increased student engagement. However, challenges such as the lack of targeted promotional efforts and limited institutional support hinder its widespread adoption. The study highlights the importance of integrating innovative marketing strategies to sustain Wushu’s growth as a sport and educational discipline. These insights contribute to the broader understanding of sports marketing in traditional disciplines and provide recommendations for enhancing Wushu’s appeal among university students in China.
