Analysis and Research on Mobile Phone Addiction among College Students: A Case Study of Five Universities in Shaanxi Province

This study investigated the status of Mobile Phone Addiction among students at five universities in Shaanxi Province and found that 17.62% of the students met the diagnostic definition of Mobile Phone Addiction and the overall addiction level was moderately low. The study analyzed the effects of background variables such as gender, home location, academic performance, parents' education level, school, professional category and grade level on Mobile Phone Addiction among college students. The results showed that men and women differed in specific dimensions of Mobile Phone Addiction; rural college students scored significantly higher on Mobile Phone Addiction than urban college students; students with excellent academic performance and at least one parent who had attended college scored lower on Mobile Phone Addiction; there were significant differences in Mobile Phone Addiction among students from different schools and majors; and freshmen scored the lowest and juniors scored the highest. In addition, factors such as being an only child, relationship status, and whether or not they came from a single-parent family did not have a significant effect on college students' Mobile Phone Addiction. The study concludes that college students' Mobile Phone Addiction behavior is affected by a variety of factors, and it is necessary to consider these factors comprehensively and take appropriate measures to guide college students to use mobile phones reasonably.
