Abstract

This conceptual study will focus on the important link between transformational leadership and organizational innovation within the context of Malaysia's franchise industry. With a foundation in major theories, including Agency Theory (Eisenhardt, 1989), Social Exchange Theory (Blau, 1964), and Engagement Theory (Kahn, 1990), the study argues that engaged leadership plays an imperative role in nurturing innovation-ensuring environments characterized by psychological safety, co-operation, and flexibility. Based on the foundational works of (Bass B. M., 2006) on transformational leadership and (Schumpeter, 1934)on innovation, the analysis examines significant barriers to innovation, such as regulatory challenges (Mohd Isa, 2011) and resource constraints, and emphasizes the pivotal role of leadership in navigating these hurdles. The findings support studies on brand perception and consumer behaviour in Malaysian franchises, as discussed by (Hashim, 2012) and offer practical insights into enhancing franchise resilience. By interweaving theoretical viewpoints with real-world applications, this research provides a holistic framework for understanding how innovation tactics and leadership practices enable organizational success. This research also presents valuable recommendations for practitioners and policymakers, aimed at fostering franchise competitiveness in an ever-changing market.
